CHOOSING TO OPTIMIZE YOUR LIFE VS. FOLLOWING SOCIETY’S EXPECTATIONS (1:37)
In early adulthood, Danielle had what most would consider a “successful” life. She went to a good college, built a successful career, and was making a lot of money.
She was doing all the things she thought would lead to happiness, but life wasn’t fulfilling. And so she sought fulfillment through relationships (that were wrong for her) and coping mechanisms (such as drugs and alcohol).
Eventually, she decided enough was enough. She was sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. She was ready to optimize her life and intentionally live a life of purpose and fulfillment.
WHERE TO BEGIN THE PROCESS OF OPTIMIZIZATOIN AFTER OVERCOMING ADVERSITY (3:31)
With this decision to optimize her life, Danielle knew things would have to change. She knew some limits and boundaries would need to be put in place in order to support the changes she wanted to make in her life.
Struggling with anxiety, depression, and addiction, she knew there were a number of underlying mental wellness issues. And though she’d tried to follow what we’re frequently told to do for mental health – seek a therapist and medication, it just hadn’t been working for her.
Humility played a huge role in creating these changes as she admitted that what she’d been doing wasn’t working. She worked on forgiving herself and others, and also on ending relationships that weren’t benefitting her.
Though she worried that she’d done irreversible damage, the right routine and habits allowed her to optimize her mental and physical health much more quickly than she’d imagined would be possible.
MOVING BEYOND THE STATUS QUO TO LIFE AN OPTIMIZED LIFE AFTER OVERCOMING ADVERSITY (8:07)
Traditionally, the status quo says that if we have a mental wellness problem, we should seek out a therapist and maybe get some medication. We can talk about our problems with a stranger and if that doesn’t work, maybe try a new therapist or in some cases go into a 30-day treatment facility. And within 30 days you should be able to reverse years of trauma and pain, and emerge having figured all of it.
Yet the truth is that this doesn’t work for many of us. And yet, if this doesn’t work, we can feel like something is wrong with us or we’re failing.
Having walked this path multiple times, Danielle knew she needed a different approach in order to truly optimize her life.
OPTIMIZE YOUR LIFE AFTER OVERCOMING ADVERSITY THROUGH THE POWER OF FORGIVENESS (19:01)
If you’re wanting a different outcome in any area of your life, whether it be your health and wellness, your relationships or your career, you have to be willing to step outside of your comfort zone and do something different.
Realizing she needed to do some deep healing, Danielle worked through forgiving herself and others to get to the point where she could have a clean slate to move forward.
Through this integrative approach of everything she was doing for her physical and mental wellness, she was able to reach the point where she could start looking at where she wanted to go and what she wanted to create in her life.
No matter where you are right now, you can choose to optimize your life. You can live a life of purpose and passion.
Through sharing her story and what helped her heal and find true fulfillment, Danielle shares what optimizing looks like in real life, lessons learned along the way, and her best advice for starting to optimize your life.
