WHEN RELATIONSHIPS IN YOUR LIFE AREN’T WORKING ANYMORE (2:00)
‘Not everyone is meant to stay forever.’ – Danielle Steel
People ebb and flow in and out of our lives based on who we are and what we need during that time.
If a relationship is no longer working or feels right, you are free to exit at any time. Life is way too short to feel stuck and trapped. This applies across the board to all relationship types.
We have to listen to our intuition and our body’s response to people.
You don’t have to sit through a bad movie because you paid for it. This applies to relationships, career paths, higher education, etc. You are free to change your mind and do something different at any point.
BUILDING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS: DEFINING WHAT THIS MEANS (7:31)
A healthy relationship is one with optimized boundaries.
A healthy relationship is one with clear communication.
A healthy relationship is one with a healthy amount of selfless give and take.
A healthy relationship aligns with your core values.
A healthy relationship is one with trust and autonomy.
WHAT NO ONE TOLD YOU ABOUT BUILDING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS (21:33)
Often, we’re given narrow guidelines about what our relationships should look like, and yet many of us are realizing that what we’re “supposed to” want doesn’t feel aligned.
So here are some ideas to help you start creating healthy relationships:
- It’s okay to let friendships go.
- It’s okay to be single, get married, or get divorced.
- It’s okay to have kids or not have kids.
- It’s okay to continuously be evaluating your inner circle and let go of relationships that are no longer serving you.
- It’s okay to give your partner space and find fulfillment in other friendships.
5 Ways to BUILD HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS (30:10)
Tip 1: Stay in your own hula hoop (don’t give unwanted advice)
Tip 2: Learn to let the rope go (think of tug of war) – Is your need to be right worth it?
Tip 3: Seek to understand rather than to be understood.
Tip 4: Know each other’s love languages
Tip 5: Remove anything that is getting in the way of you showing up fully
